Families planning for fall 2027 entry can work from a short list of published dates. Hotchkiss lists four that matter, and the application itself has four steps. Here is how they fit together.
The four dates

The four steps
The school's checklist runs in this order:
- Complete an Admission Inquiry Form.
- Schedule an interview.
- Take a standardized test.
- Complete the application.
The inquiry form comes first because Hotchkiss says you must complete it before you schedule an interview.
Interviews
Interviews are available from mid-September through mid-January. There are none during Thanksgiving or Winter Break, so book early enough to avoid those gaps.
Testing
Hotchkiss prefers the November or December test dates. January test takers are still considered in the regular cycle, but only once their scores arrive. Which test counts depends on the grade: the SSAT or ISEE for grades 9 and 10, and different lists for grade 11, grade 12 and the postgraduate year.
Working backward
- Do the inquiry form and book an interview in September or October.
- Register for a November or December test date.
- Draft the essays and parent statement while you wait for scores.
- Ask teachers for their forms early.
- File the financial aid application by January 15 if you need aid.
